Sophie! :D

Just yesterday morning, 600 students from Lakewood High School stood in front of the Department of Transportation office and refused to move out of the way, until the officers agreed to compromise this outrageous bussing system.

“it takes more time for me to get to the bus, than the actual bus ride itself” says junior, sally seashore

Freshman, Jimmy Bob Smith says, “My first period is shorter than my bus ride in the morning. Its longer in the afternoon.”

The average high schooler (that rides the bus), spends 4 hours on the bus, every day. The parents of these children rely on the buses to bring their children to school.

Some students say that while on the bus, they pass the school they attend at least twice before actually pulling into the parking lot. As a reporter, not knowing these students on a personal level; I can say that I would refuse to send my children to this school, if THIS is what I have to go through.

To visualize this  put out your left hand in front of you, and spread out the fingers. Then take the index finger of your right hand. And touch it to the pinky of your left hand. Now imagine that the middle finger is your destination,  take your pointer finger from the pinky, to the index finger, to the thumb, and then back to the middle finger.  Does this make sense?.. no? I didn’t think so.

Finally after almost 3 monthes of fighting this the Department of Transportation finally decided they would fix the problem. They went back to the classic “shuttle” system, where the bus would have one or two central spots to pick up at. Central spots where you do not have to pass Lakewood High on the way to the bus stop.

Yes, even though every day the number of miles traveled by a bus driver (all combined), is the distance of circling the earth twice, BUT we need buses for our students, and messing with the bus stops every year, and constantly changing them, will not fix the problem.
